Will Casey Anthony Get a TV Show?

Will Casey Anthony Get a TV Show?

With Casey Anthony being released from jail on July 17, many are wondering, "What's next for her?" And also: "Will it involve a TV show?"

There's good reason to consider the possibility. According to the Los Angeles Times, rumors flew Thursday that she had been signed by the talent agency, William Morris. The scuttlebutt was quickly denied by the agency itself. But the Times also pointed out the ample history of notorious figures making their way onto the TV airwaves, including Amy Fisher (Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew), Rod Blagojevich (The Celebrity Apprentice), Tonya Harding (Celebrity Boxing), and Eliot Spitzer (CNN's In The Arena).

Of course, none of those people were ever charged with murder. And while Anthony may have been acquitted, she has certainly lost credibility in the court of public opinion. Would casting her in a show be too distasteful, even in our current, anything-goes celebrity climate? Maybe.

On the other hand, reporting on Anthony has brought record ratings to the HLN network. According to The New York Times, Nancy Grace's coverage of the verdict attracted "the biggest audience in the six-year history of the show."

Despicable as exploiting Anthony's popularity sounds, she obviously would pique the interest of TV viewers. So the question is: How low will TV execs go?

Joe Jonas Wants To Hit The Road With Chris Brown

'We liked working together, so I can see it working,' Joe tells MTV News of his 'See No More' partner.
By Jocelyn Vena

Joe Jonas was once a curly-haired kid from New Jersey who sang bubblegum pop/rock songs about puppy love with his brothers. Well, he's grown up a lot since then. He chopped off his hair and, on his first-ever solo album, Fast Life, he's opening up about falling in and out of love.

And in August, the middle JoBro turns a very grown-up 22. So, what does he have planned for the big day?

"I don't have any birthday plans yet, actually," he told MTV News recently. "I don't even know where we're going to be because we're trying to figure out a touring situation right now and it either looks like I'm going on my tour, my own tour, or opening up for somebody, supporting somebody on tour."

While his plans are still to be determined, he was sure of one thing: "Wherever I am, there will be a party and it will be fun."

Speaking of tours, Joe was once rumored to be hitting the road with Britney Spears on her now all-female Femme Fatale trek. Those plans didn't pan out, of course, and now he's looking to hook up with someone else on the road. Joe even shared his dream tourmate with us.

"My dream list, wow ... I mean, doing a tour with Chris would be cool," he said of Chris Brown, who helped the singer pen his first single, "See No More." "I feel like, musically, we both have the same sounds and we liked working together, so I can see it working."

Joe's album drops in September, and he told us that he's not holding back on it. "It was scary in the beginning," he said of doing a solo LP, "just because I knew this is my one opportunity to show people my journal: the good and bad of every relationship I've been in, you know, [and] what I look for [in relationships]," he explained.

Who would you like to see Joe tour with? Share your picks in the comments!

Britney Spears Drops Official 'Till The World Ends' Remix

New track with Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha follows leaked version, plus Brit tweets single's cover art.
By Jocelyn Vena

The "Till the World Ends" Femme Fatale remix
Photo: Jive

Just days after it was leaked on Friday, Britney Spears and her femme fatales, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, dropped their official remix of "Till the World Ends."

The new version of the song was produced by Dr. Luke and Dream Machine. Brit half-whispers " 'Till the World Ends' remix" before the beat kicks in and Nicki hits her verse hard. She spits fierce lines like, "Sniff, sniff, cries/ I done slayed your whole entire f---ing life."

Then Britney's sex-kitten vocals kick in for the song's first verse. "That's Britney, bitch! I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha," the Queens MC declares before K sings the chorus. The beat is harder, the loops are sassier and the song is grimier than the original version, which was the second single from Femme Fatale. The newly added dubstep portion takes the one from "Hold It Against Me" to a new level by adding in bass-heavy synths.

Ke$ha, of course, wrote the track for Britney, and the ladies certainly don't seem to mind sharing the spotlight with each other. The official track isn't much different than the version that leaked over the weekend, though Spears did have something brand-new to share with her fans just as the song dropped on iTunes and streamed on her website.

Spears tweeted the artwork for the single, which features the original press photo of Spears along with separate photos of Nicki on the left and Ke$ha on the right. Spears wrote, "@NickiMinaj @Keshasuxx Too much fierceness for one cover! Thanks for lending your voices girls... #TTWEREMIX — Brit"

Spears and Minaj have been hanging out a lot in the lead-up to their summer tour. They hung out at the Factory nightclub on Friday night after Minaj's show in Los Angeles. Spears later wrote, "Early rehearsal after a late night with my girl @NickiMinaj. Can't WAIT to get out on the road with you."

What do you think of the "Till the World Ends" remix? Tell us in the comments!

The exhibition Blockbuster: Cinema for Exhibitions investigates how a number
of significant contemporary artists working with film and video have been
affected by, and redeploy in their own practices, cinematic strategies found
in the work of major 20th-century filmmakers.

Many of the works in Blockbuster: Cinema for Exhibitions analyze the manner
in
which meaning, narrative, and convention are established by employing
certain
qualities of cinema&lsqauo;breaking it down into its constituent parts to show us
its
powerfully manipulative and revealing aspects. Others reference the work of
directors who emphasize context and location, favoring an overall
atmospheric
effect. In a rather different way, some artists use a conceptual structure,
drawing a comparison between the role of filmmaking and the significance of
conceptual gestures. The film genre of the documentary is also referenced,
whether to manipulate our belief in what is being told or to explore the
history of a particular narrative. And another group of works examines the
potential for an alternative form of performative work in film and video,
utilizing strategies of dance, choreography, and music to explore the rich
intersection between physical movement and film.

As a fundamental part of the show, each of the participating artists was
invited to select an accompanying movie that they consider related to their
work. These selections will be screened as part of a special program that
runs
parallel to the exhibition. It features films by the following directors:

Chantal Akerman, Michelangelo Antonioni, Robert Bresson, René Clair, Jean
Eustache, Federico Fellini, Alfredo Gurrola, Charles Laughton, Joseph Losey,
Leo McCarey, Max Ophüls, Michael Powell, Alain Resnais, Tony Richardson,
Jacques Tati, Bertrand Tavernier, Dalton Trumbo, Jean Vigo, Orson Welles

Blockbuster: Cinema for Exhibitions is the first exhibition produced by CIAC
that contains works that are not part of CIAC's collection. It aims to
contribute to the decentralization of culture in Mexico and will travel to
some of the most significant contemporary art museums in the country before
embarking on a tour of other countries in Latin America. The physical
presentation involves a number of temporary structures that guarantee the
best
technical environment for the screenings while also being mobile enough for
the extended tour. The overall program is designed with the intent to create
a
new kind of relationship between exhibition and viewer; the constantly
changing programs and screenings of classic movies, if they are to be
experienced fully, demand repeated visits and a more active dialogue between
institution and audience.

Created in 1992, the Isabel and Agustín Coppel Collection is considered one
of
the most solid and dynamic within contemporary art in México. Each one of
its
projects reaffirms the commitment to stimulation and diffusion of art and
culture in México and the world.

An extensive, full-color, bilingual (Spanish/English) accompanying
publication
will be available starting in June 2011. Its design is based on the
iconography of traditional Mexican split-fountain movie posters with their
bold typefaces and vivid colors. It includes essays by the curator Jens
Hoffmann, the scholar José Luis Barrios, and the film critic Ernesto
Diezmartínez Guzmán as well as information on all the participating artists
and their works, extended notes on the classic films selected by the
artists,
and a special insert featuring a newly commissioned photographic project by
Fernando Ortega depicting abandoned or repurposed movie theaters in Mexico
City.

Big Sean Is 'The Next Generation Of Hip-Hop'

Industry vet Kevin Liles downplays his role in Kanye West protégé's top-five debut, in Mixtape Daily.
By Rob Markman

Executive Decision: Kevin Liles
Big Sean is Finally Famous after selling more than 87,000 copies of his debut album and landing the #3 spot on the Billboard albums chart.

Part of the reason has been the addition of former Def Jam and Warner Music Group President Kevin Liles to Sean's management team. Liles, however, humbly downplayed his involvement.

"G.O.O.D. Music did an amazing job ... and I'm just glad I'm still here and able to give light and share some experience to what these kids are going through," Liles told Mixtape Daily from the red carpet at DJ Cassidy's birthday party Wednesday in New York City. "He's the next generation of hip-hop."

Back in February, Sean added Liles and his KWL company to his management team to work alongside his already-existing manager, Mike Brinkley. It was around that time Sean confirmed a split with previous manager Michael "Blue" Williams, an industry veteran who helped guide the careers of Outkast and R&B group Jagged Edge.

In the months leading up to Sean's release, he began to garner big looks, performing his #1 rap single "My Last" alongside Chris Brown at the 2011 BET Awards and on the main stage at Hot 97's annual Summer Jam concert in June. Now, Sean's star is set to shine brighter as he preps the Hype Williams-directed video for his Kanye West-assisted single "Marvin & Chardonnay."

It was Sean's natural talents that got him this far; Liles just gave him a bit of a push. "All I did was fan his fire. I don't make stars or anything like that; I just help them do what they do best," Liles said. "He's a great rapper, he's fashion, he's entertainment, he's a lyricist, he's all those things, and I'm just glad again they allowed me to be part of it."

Janet Jackson Thrills Fans With Greatest Hits, Michael Tribute At Radio City

Singer covered songs ranging from classic 'Pleasure Principle' to 2008's 'Feedback' at New York show.
By Vaughn Schoonmaker

NEW YORK — Often imitated, never duplicated, Janet Jackson's outbursts of meticulous choreography, sassy exclamations and smoldering gazes into the audience kept them on their feet for the entire two-hour set of her greatest hits at Radio City Music Hall. Monday night marked the last of three sold-out shows at the historic venue on her monumental Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour.

Up-and-coming boy band Mindless Behavior opened the show with songs including "#1 Girl," "Future" and their debut single, "My Girl." With their Usher-esque dance moves and shouts like "Where the ladies at?" the boys brought the tween girls out of hiding, judging by the shrill screams escaping various corner of the music hall.

At 9:00 sharp, the lights went down and Janet's fans were on the edge of their seats, watching music videos for "The Best Things in Life Are Free" and "Rhythm Nation" projected on big screens across the venue. A small shadow drifted toward center stage, and when the colorful lights came up, Jackson, wrapped in a shoulder-padded catsuit, complete with slick short hair, blasted into "The Pleasure Principle," dancing as hard and intensely choreographed as she did when the song first came out in the 1980s.

With barely a spare second between songs, Janet dazzled her way through her biggest hits, including "Miss You Much," "All for You" and "Nasty," and more recent hits like 2008's "Feedback."

Videos displayed during Jackson's costume changes included vintage clips from "Diff'rent Strokes," a funny scene from "Poetic Justice" where Jackson slyly rejects the advances of Tupac Shakur's character, and a rather heavy scene, as Jackson's character in "Why Did I Get Married" destroys her husband's house with a golf club, screaming hysterically.

Considering the tough couple of years the Jackson family has faced, the dark moments in the video seemed fitting, and everyone was beside themselves with bittersweet joy when Michael Jackson's face popped up on the big screen and she performed their hit single "Scream."

Janet emerged for her encore in a tight white one-piece disco suit, and performed "Diamonds," "Make Me" and "Together Again," which appeared to be the biggest hit of the evening. As Jackson graciously bowed out, her straight face transitioned into a smirk, suggesting that despite the hard times she has experienced recently, we can expect to see this singing and dancing pop legend shine far into the future.

"Its amazing!" Janet fan Elena Mercantini gleamed afterward. "It's like she's still 20 years old!"

"She's hot, she's amazing and she's still got it after all these years" added Alison Klinger of Long Island. "Best concert I've ever been to!"

Trespass: First a Parade, Then a Party

West of Rome Public Art
www.trespassparade.org <http://www.trespassparade.org>

On Sunday, October 2, 2011 the streets of downtown Los Angeles will erupt in
a
parade of local artists and residents, complete with music, dancing and
performance. The parade is the culmination of Trespass, a collaborative
project between Arto Lindsay, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and West of Rome Public
Art
(WoR). They have commissioned 40 Los Angeles based artists, including John
Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, Nancy Rubins and Sterling Ruby, to produce a
statement--their call to action, pleasure and reciprocity. The statements
have
been printed on T-shirts in English and in Spanish, and will be worn as part
of the parade and sold via the West of Rome website. The parade will take
place at 11:00 am and will convene at 1933 South Broadway, Los Angeles, CA
90007. This project has been created to coincide with Pacific Standard Time,
a
collaboration of more than 60 cultural institutions across Southern
California
coming together for the first time to celebrate the birth of the L.A. art
scene, which begins October 2011.

On Monday, October 3, 2011 Trespass will reach its climax with a blow out
benefit party for WoR at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. Fantastic
and
transgressive Los Angeles iconic underground figure, Miss Vaginal Davis will
shape our journey into the night. The rhythms of Trespass will permeate
into
the evening as musician Arto Lindsay will perform a unique piece composed
for
the occasion. Artist Rirkrit Tiravanija will engage the audience in a
continuation of the collective experience of social awareness stemming from
the parade.

WoR will integrate underground and cutting edge moments of street life and
cultural history in Los Angeles into the party, and deliver it to a
sophisticated international art audience. For a unique experience in the
City
of Angels, please visit our website: www.trespassparade.org
<http://www.trespassparade.org> .

Arto Lindsay's musical career has often involved collaboration with artists.
These have ranged from working with Jean Michel Basquiat on his artist break
for MTV to a performance at The Kitchen with Vito Acconci called "Women's
Business" to a parade during Carnaval in El Salvador with Matthew Barney
entitled "de lama l?mina." Recent projects include collaborations with
Dominique Gonzalez Foerster and Philippe Parreno. In April 2008 Lindsay
presented "I Am a Man", a parade in Frankfurt featuring dancer Richard
Siegal,
artist /musician Nico Vascellari, percussionist Marivaldo Paim, and students
of the Staedelschule. In 2009 Lindsay presented Multinatural (Blackout) a
parade at the Venice Biennale. He also presented parades in New York and
Berlin. In 2010 he collaborated on a parade in Paris for Nuitblanche with
Rirkrit Tiravanija.

Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija is widely recognized as one of the most
influential artists of his generation. His work defies media-based
description, as his practice combines traditional object making, public and
private performances, teaching, and other forms of public service and social
action. Winner of the 2010 Absolut Art Award and the 2005 Hugo Boss Prize
awarded by the Guggenheim Museum. Tiravanija was also awarded the Benesse by
the Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum in Japan and the Smithsonian American
Art
Museum's Lucelia Artist Award.

WoR is the leading organization in Los Angeles dedicated to the realization
of
artists' projects, exhibitions, and public interventions outside of the
frame
of galleries and museums. Founded in 2005, WoR has produced many notable
exhibitions including Women in The City featuring Barbara Kruger, Louise
Lawler, Cindy Sherman and Jenny Holzer, Mike Kelley and Michael Smith's A
Voyage of Growth and Discovery, and Marnie Weber's Eternity Forever.

MoMA RESUMES PERFORMANCE PROGRAM WITH A NEW COMMISSION BY
GRAND OPENINGS

Starting July 20, the New Yorkbased artist collective Grand Openings
presents
13 days of performance in The Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium and
throughout the Museum. Inviting collaborators such as musicians,
performance-art scholars, sound artists, filmmakers, writers, and friends,
the
group is composing a multifaceted live program that relates to the history
of
performance art in general as well as MoMA's particular institutional
structure. Some sections are informed by encounters with the Museum's
archives, current exhibitions, architecture, and staff; others are indirect
meditations on the practice of performing itself. The title of the program,
Grand Openings Return of the Blogs, refers to an additional documentary
element of the work&lsqauo;a daily account of the actions in the form of
handwritten
texts, fabricated objects, and audio podcasts&lsqauo;which will be presented in the
gallery space and on MoMA.org <http://MoMA.org> .

Grand Openings consists of five core members&lsqauo;Ei Arakawa, Jutta Koether, Jay
Sanders, Emily Sundblad, and Stefan Tcherepnin&lsqauo;with different backgrounds in
art, music, curating, and criticism. The collective's mise-en-scènes
comprise
partly scripted and partly improvised actions, loose choreographies, musical
scores, and acts of self-reflection that all coexist in a chaotic structure.
Since its inception in 2005, the collective has appeared at Performa05 (New
York, 2005), Magical Artroom (Tokyo, 2006), Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial
(Niigata Prefecture, Japan, 2006), MUMOK (Vienna, 2008), Bumbershoot
(Seattle,
2008), Art Basel Statements (Basel, 2009), SculptureCenter (New York, 2009),
and Bonniers Konsthall (Stockholm, 2010).

By inviting an artist collective rather than an individual artist to restart
MoMA's performance program, the Museum directs its focus to the changing
relationship between institutions and performance art. A practice that was
once conceived as a critique of the static, commodified art object created
by
a sole author is now embraced by major museums and a focus of their
programs.
How do institutions and their audiences engage with this formerly
emancipatory
movement that once existed to seek new methods and channels for art? How do
younger generations of artists respond to this legacy? And in what ways do
artists negotiate the inherent tension between the original live performance
and its representation in different media? Grand Openings' practice relates
to
these questions in an idiosyncratic way and opens them up for new
discussion.

More information on MoMA's performance program and a detailed schedule are
available at MoMA.org/performance <http://MoMA.org/performance> .

The Performance Program is organized by Sabine Breitwieser, Chief Curator,
and
Jenny Schlenzka, Assistant Curator for Performance, Department of Media and
Performance Art.

The Performance Exhibition Series is made possible by MoMA's Wallis
Annenberg
Fund for Innovation in Contemporary Art through the Annenberg Foundation.

Why Kourtney Kardashian Won't Marry Scott Disick

Kourtney Kardashian is thinking about having a second baby -- but not about getting married. Now that her little sister Kim Kardashian is getting married, the pressure is on for Kourtney, 32, to marry Scott Disick, the father of her 18-month-old son Mason. So what's she waiting for? That's what Kourtney's mother Kris Jenner wants to know in Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Watch the clip below!

Did you catch Kourtney's reason for not wanting to get married? Here's what she says when Kris gently puts on the pressure: "This is my life. I don't need a piece of paper to make it a family unit. I don't want to get married right now. I'm fine."

Then she turns to the camera and says, "I definitely don't want to get married just for the sake of getting married."

Okay, Kourtney doesn't want to get married just because other people want her to get married. Fair enough. But she still hasn't answered the question that Kris and Kim are scratching their heads over: Why, after one baby with Scott and another potentially on the way, is marriage off the table? Or to put it more bluntly: What is Kourtney waiting for?

If we had to venture a guess, we'd say she was waiting for Scott to shape up. Not only does he have a history of excessive drinking and scary meltdowns, but he also has a history of being -- what's a polite way to put this? -- a jerkface. Still, Kourtney seems committed to him, in a no-paperwork kind of way. And Kris, who was once set against Scott becoming part of the family, says he's turned a corner of late.

"When Mason was born, Scott was more of a hot mess, but now he's really turned his life around and been amazing," the Kardashian sisters' mother explains. "He's such a great partner to Kourtney. I don't know what Kourtney's reservations are, why she's holding back and being so stubborn."

Hmm, stubborn and strong-willed? Wonder where the Kardashian sisters get that from?

The National Gallery London ~ One Of The Best Collections Of European Art In The World

Posted: 09 Jul 2011 08:29 PM PDT

artwork: The National Gallery in London, located on the North side of Trafalger Square. The building designed by William Wilkins opened in 1838. Subsequent extensions have increased the floor area to 46,396 metres squared and the National Gallery is visited by more than 4 million people every year.

Unlike comparable art museums such as the Louvre in Paris or the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the National Gallery in London was not formed by nationalizing an existing royal or princely art collection. The History of London's National Gallery dates back to April 1824 when the House of Commons agreed to pay £57,000 for the picture collection of the banker John Julius Angerstein. His 38 pictures were intended to form the core of a new national collection, for the enjoyment and education of all. The pictures were displayed at Angerstein's house at 100 Pall Mall until a dedicated gallery building could be constructed. Angerstein's house was small and unsuited to becoming an art gallery (it had to close for a while due to subsidence) and was compared unfavorably with other national art galleries, such as the Louvre in Paris, and ridiculed in the press. So, in 1831 Parliament agreed to construct a dedicated building for the National Gallery at Trafalgar Square. There had been lengthy discussion about the best site for the Gallery, and Trafalgar Square (at the time being constructed on the site of the King's Mews in the Charing Cross district) was eventually chosen as it was considered to be at the very centre of London. Trafalgar Square could be reached by the rich driving in their carriages from the west of London, and on foot by the poor from the East End. It was felt that in this location the paintings could be enjoyed by all classes in society. The new building designed by William Wilkins finally opened in 1838. There was a lot of public criticism of the Wilkins' building, King William IV (in his last recorded utterance) thought the building a "nasty little pokey hole", while the novelist William Makepeace Thackeray called it "a little gin shop of a building". Some of these criticisms were addressed through the landscaping of Trafalgar Square, the steps in front of the National Gallery serving to increase its height and prominence, but in 1869 the architect E.M. Barry was asked to submit designs for rebuilding the entire Gallery. After much discussion, it was decided that the existing building should remain, and instead, a new wing should be added. This was completed in 1876, and added seven new exhibition rooms at the east end, including the impressive dome. The Royal Academy of Arts which had also been housed in the National Gallery building moved out in 1869, leaving extra space for the National Gallery. Continuing expansion of the collection led the trustees to campaign long and hard for additional space. Eventually, in 1907, barracks at the rear of the Gallery were cleared and work began to construct five new galleries. Further expansion was carried out in 1975, when the 'Northern Extension' was completed, providing 9 large rooms and 3 smaller 'cabinet' rooms of additional exhibition space. In 1985 Lord Sainsbury and his brothers agreed to finance the construction of a new wing on a site next to the Gallery which had been vacant since the Second World War, when a furniture shop was destroyed by bombing. The new Sainsbury Wing, designed by Pritzker Prize winning architect Robert Venturi and his wife, Denise Scott Brown, was opened in 1991, to display the entire early Renaissance collection. With a commitment to free admission, a central and accessible site, and extended opening hours the Gallery has ensured that its collection can be enjoyed by the widest public possible, and not become the exclusive preserve of the privileged. From the outset the National Gallery has been committed to education. Students have always been admitted to the Gallery to study the collection, and to make copies of the pictures. A vibrant education program continues today for school children, students, and the general public. The program includes free public lectures, tours and seminars. Following the completion of the Sainsbury Wing, the Gallery has a total floor area of 46,396 metres squared and is visited by more than 4 million people every year. The Library of Congress hosts the National Film Registry, said to be the world's largest archive of film, TV, and sound recordings. An honor to be asked to participate, the 25 inductees were on the short list of the hundreds of titles considered. The 1983 Jackson music video directed by John Landis, though still the subject of lawsuits over profits, was one of 25 films to be inducted for preservation in the 2009 National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.

Norman Gorbaty ~ 2 Exhibitions At The Fairfield University In Connecticut ~ A Rediscovered Master

artwork: Norman Gorbaty - "Torah", 2006 - Oil on canvas - 30" x 40". Courtesy of the artist. A selection of Gorbaty's Judaic art is exhibited in "To Honor My People: Reflections of a Jewish Artist" at the Thomas J. Walsh Gallery through March 27 2011.

Fairfield, Connecticut (New York Times).- Norman Gorbaty, now 78, has been making artworks, many of them large, for more than half a century. Hundreds, probably thousands, of pieces in more than a dozen media. For most of that time, the pieces were set aside, leaned against a wall, thrown in a drawer or folder, relegated to the basement or attic, and rarely seen by anyone other than friends or relatives. But after Mr. Gorbaty's wife died in 2003, his son thought that organizing and perhaps showing the art would be therapeutic, so he secretly entered a drawing into a juried show."It was the clear winner," recalled the juror, Susan Greenberg Fisher, then associate curator of modern and contemporary art at the Yale University Gallery. She described Mr. Gorbaty's work as "the highest level." Ms. Fisher was the first of many experts to praise the work as Mr. Gorbaty. Now shared with hundreds of galleries and museums.

Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art ~ New Survey Book of Contemporary African Art

Posted: 09 Jul 2011 08:11 PM PDT

artwork: Okwui Enwezor, a leading curator and scholar of contemporary art, is founding publisher and editor of Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art. The journal themes: "Politics, Culture, Critique," "Memory and Archive," "Abstraction, Figuration & Subjectivity," and "The Body, Gender & Sexuality

NEW YORK, NY.- Contemporary African Since 1980 is the first major survey of the work of contemporary African artists from diverse situations, locations, and generations who work either in or outside of Africa, but whose practices engage and occupy the social and cultural complexities of the continent since the past 30 years. Its frame of analysis is absorbed with historical transitions: from the end of the postcolonial utopias of the sixties during the 1980s to the geopolitical, economic, technological, and cultural shifts incited by globalization. This book is both narrower in focus in the periods it reflects on, and specific in the ground it covers. It begins by addressing the tumultuous landscape of contemporary Africa, examining landmarks and narratives, exploring divergent systems of representation, and interrogating the ways artists have responded to change and have incorporated new aesthetic principles and artistic concepts, images and imaginaries to deal with such changes.

Musée du Louvre presents a Retrospective for Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller

PARIS - With this retrospective, the first of its kind to be presented in a French museum, the Louvre, in association with the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, invites visitors to discover the work of Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller. Although little known in France, this artist had a profound impact on nineteenth-century Austrian painting. A master of many genres (portraits, landscapes, scenes from everyday life, open-air paintings, and even still lifes), Waldmüller favors rigorous realism. However, this scrupulous quest for exactitude does not detract from the discreet, pervasive and satisfying harmony of his paintings.

The Library of Congress to host "The Sound of Broadway Music: A Symposium on Orchestrators"

Posted: 09 Jul 2011 08:02 PM PDT

artwork: Academy Award-winning 1965 film musical. The Sound of Music , starring Julie Andrews, was the final musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein

Washington, DC - When we think of musicals such as "West Side Story," "The Sound of Music" or "My Fair Lady," we're reminded of Tony crooning "Maria," another Maria rapturously singing the title-tune "The Sound of Music," or Liza Doolittle claiming "I Could Have Danced All Night." The melodies and words roll by, but the colors of the instruments playing them, the haunting high string lines, the countermelodies and embellishments in the flutes and clarinets, or the dramatic chords by the trumpets are all the works of the orchestrators.

ROME - The major monographic exhibition on "Giovanni Bellini" that Mauro Lucco and Giovanni C. F. Villa are organizing at Rome's Scuderie del Quirinale exhibition center, putting together a scientific committee of immense international prestige comprising the world's leading experts on the painter, is an operation that is going to entail numerous difficulties due to the fragile condition and immense value of the works of art involved, almost all of which are on wood and extremely large. This is the first monographic exhibition on Giovanni Bellini since Rodolfo Pallucchini devoted an exhibition to him at the Doge's Palace in Venice in 1949, almost 60 years ago.

The Situation On Ex-Manager's Lawsuit: Please!

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is hitting back publicly at claims made by his former manager, which filed a $1 million lawsuit against him Friday.

Contrary to Gotham Management's claim that Sitch got famous because they repped him, the Jersey Shore star says they don't deserve credit.

Richard Wolfe, Mike's lawyer, says Gotham's suit "is filled with falsities," and that the "did MORE HARM than good to Michael and his career."

Ugly Situation

The one thing everyone agrees on? Mike is really famous!

Gotham claims in its lawsuit that it made The Situation a star, which is the basis for the seven-figure compensation it's seeking to collect.

Wolfe, however, says it's Mike's brother, Marc Sorrentino, who "works tirelessly to build the brand that is Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino."

The Sitch, who reportedly bailed on Jersey Shore this week, and who fired Gotham in May, will pay what is owed but not a dime more.

As for his status on Jersey Shore, it's far from clear. Reports say he got into quarrel during filming, ripped off his mic and peaced out.

A week prior, Vinny Guadagnino did virtually the same thing.
