Jennifer Grey to Undergo Surgery for 'Dancing' Injury

Jennifer Grey to Undergo Surgery for 'Dancing' Injury

It looks like the saying "no pain, no gain" applies to Dancing with the Stars champ Jennifer Grey.

Turns out, the 50-year-old actress not only walked away with the coveted DWTS trophy, but a ruptured disc in her lower back, as well.

Grey will undergo surgery to fix the painful problem within the next week. "It’s just gonna be like a little surgery where they take out the ruptured disc thing, and you know, it won’t be a big deal," she assured Access Hollywood. "Compared to the other surgeries I had on my neck, my doctor says it won’t be a big deal...I’ll be home that night."

Of course, this isn't the first time Grey has had to go under the knife due to an injury. After enduring a car crash in 1987, the Dirty Dancing star had a series of operations to correct her chronic neck pain that resulted from the accident. She also had to have her entire thyroid removed when doctors discovered she had thyroid cancer.

But Grey has made a strong recovery. "My neck is fine," she said. "My neck did really well because it has a steel plate in it. So, it was really, probably the strongest part of my body."

While she may not be 100 percent with her current back problem, Grey is keeping a good attitude about the whole thing. In fact, she says it was all worth it in the name of DWTS -- even though she almost had to sit out her last two dances due to discomfort.

"I gotta tell you, the win and the experience of doing ‘Dancing with the Stars’ -- already, like I don’t even remember the pain I was in a week ago," she said. "I just have some discomfort in back that needs to be taken care of. OK, it’s a little more than discomfort."
