SwabOFF 2011
Swab Barcelona, the International Contemporary Art Fair will take place between 26 and 29 May. For this new edition, Swab will count on the participation of 49 galleries from 13 countries and will move to a new location, Pabellón 2 of Fira Barcelona.
Swab is proud to confirm the continuity of FUNDACIÓ BANC SABADELL and MANGO as an official sponsor and a new collaboration with Volkswagen as the official car and Acontraluz and Cornelia And Co. as official restaurants of Swab 2011. One of the great innovations of this fourth edition is the expected program of activities: SwabOFF. These new artistic initiatives will take place in different areas of the city of Barcelona with the aim to bring new artistic initiatives to the visitors of Swab and the citizens of Barcelona.
Some of these activities are:
- SWAB STAIRS by KOGNITIF
Activity within the program Primavera Cultural de TMB. 4 students of design schools, IED, IDEP, Pau Gargallo and La Llotja have designed 4 vinyl that will be placed on the steps of 4 subway stations. These vinyls are exposed from 19 to 29 May at the following stations:
• Paseo de Gracia L2 [in front of COMEDIA]
• Paseo de Gracia L2 [in front of ZARA]
• L1 Catalunya [Pl Catalunya / Ronda Universitat in front of Caja Madrid ].
• L1 Catalunya [Pl Catalunya / Ronda Universitat in front of El Corte Inglés ].
- CIUTAT NOVA by KOGNITIF
Children from the Casal dels Infants del Raval will imagine the cities of the future through a workshop where they will draw it. These drawings will be reflected in a dividing wall of the Raval district of Barcelona. (To be determined)
- CIUTAT BELLA by KOGNITIF
A thought on the transformation of the city of Barcelona through an exhibition consisting of 7 large surfaces in the neighborhood of Raval to be held throughout 2011. (The first will be presented during Swab on the corner of Calle Calle Santa Madrona Peracamps from May 23).
- INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES IN THE CCCB
Colloquium by Lab’Bel SWAB (Paris) on “the status of the artist today.” (Saturday, 28, at 4 pm)
With the cooperation of various institutions and platforms dedicated to contemporary art
- PERFORMANCES AND ACTIONS IN THE PUBLIC SPACE
Different interventions by artists in various public places of the City of Barcelona: With the participation of artists like Millesi Hanno, who will perform a walk through the Raval on 27 and 28 in the morning (time and route to be determined) and Jan Vormann, to carry out an installation on the facade of a building of Mango (to be determined).
- CURATED EXHIBITIONS
- Exhibition curated by Silvia Guerra and Laurent Fievet Lab ‘Bel (Paris) of national and international artists in Swab, in collaboration with Hangar, Palais Tokyo and Gasworks.
- Exhibition curated by Silvia Guerra and Laurent Fievet Lab ‘Bel (Paris) of the artist Stefan Bruggemann in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion.
- Exhibition curated by Mónica Álvarez Careaga, to be held in the COAC, (Official College of Architects of Catalonia): Dibujo, representación y discurso en las colecciones particulares de arte contemporáneo de Barcelona. From 19th to 28th of May. (Plaça Nova, 5. Barcelona, 08002).
- EXHIBITIONS IN COLLABORATION WITH GALLERIES AND INSTITUTIONS OF BARCELONA
- Atticus Gallery will present Post it ® Show Barcelona, a collective that has the peculiarity that all works are done on Post-it ® notes. The exhibition is open until 31 May (C / Lledó 10).
- INTERVENTIONS IN THE PUBLIC SPACE BY WALKING GALLERY
Collaboration with this new group of Barcelona that present their works on the street, doing tours around the city centre, showing the work of artists who do not exhibit their works in galleries and museums. During Swab they will make a tour arount the center of Barcelona that will end up at the Fair (Time to be determined).
- TARDOR ART-VINILS at SWAB 2011
Institutional stand in SWAB 2011 showing works from 75 Catalan galleries.
- SWAB KIDS
A space for children where they can understand the art being part of it. We collaborate with the New York artist Amanda Browder, who has designed a a piece where children can play with a work of art.
- NEW SPACES: CHILL OUT AND LOUNGE.
An outdoor terrace in Swab where you can will be able to relax and enjoy some music by DJs for Swab 2011.
- EXHIBITION Red-On-Toyz: by the artist Quim Tarrida (at the Fair).
A Toyz look through the collection of Joan Redon, one of the most important collections in Europe.
- POSTCARDS SOLIDARITY
An opportunity to buy works of art unique and original for only 25 €.
