Hi,
My parents got their second Re-entry Permit approved (applied through Application I-131) in first week of Jan 2008. This rentry permit is valid for 2 years (i.e. till Jan 2010). They had applied for the second Re-entry Permit on 16th Feb 2007. And after applying it they left 19th Feb 2007.
They are planning to return to US in Jan 2010 before the Re-entry Permit expiration. I read on this and other forums that with Re-entry Permit a US resident can live outside for more than 1 year and less than 2 years.
In my parent's case, when they will return back to US in Jan 2010, they will already have spend 3 years outside US.
I was concerned that the 2 year stay limit will be counted from the day my parents left US or the day when the Re-entry Permit got approved?
Secondly, Is there any limit on number of times a Re-Entry Permit can be applied?

How early can I start working. If I am correct usually I have to wait until I get receipt for USCIS before I can start working for another company. But with H1B from university should I have wait till it gets approved?

My employer had sent my H-1 application in May first week, but he didn't even receive the EAC number till last week. So, he re-filed my H-1, this time by premium processing and its been a week, and still no EAC number. Is anyone having the same delays as me? If so, is there any way to contact someone or get the status of my application? Looking for an urgent response. Thanks,

Thanks for reading this message. Since you are from mid-west, you are capable of taking your car and drive in the direction of DC. It will take anywhere from 9-15hours. But you will be able to do it.
If there was a possibility of USCIS handing a GC in person, you would have driven 50 hours. Can you not drive for 10hours for a cause that is affecting you, me and everyone around us?
Now make up your mind and drive and meet other mid-westerners in DC.
I know one mr Gan*** - who flew to Nebraska with a Substitute labor and i 140 petition on the last day before labor substitution was banned. Mr Gane** also filed for 485 after the fiasco and we had a drink together because he thought he did a marvellous job as he is just 2 months old in US and has just landed in a consulting job and already applied 140/485 during the fiasco.
But he is not willing to hop onto my car, lives 5 miles from my place in Queens, to go to DC.
This shows the poor attitude people have towards grassroots efforts.

I am not sure if this works or not, but try to create a yahoo group id and add these email addresses as the members of the group.
Then you can just shoot your e-mail to this group address.

Most have their websites. Send email and they will get back to you.
If no websites, find the address from the State Governor's website and send a letter explaning the situation. they will send you a document-release form. Fill that form and send copies of all the required documents for your case.

Here is something we really should watch closely. US senate race in Massachusetts between Democrat Coakley and Republican Brown. They are fighting for the vacant seat of Hon. Late Senator Ted Kennedy. Now, people would think, why a race in mass. matter? It's a completely blue state, and had no republican senator in last 40 yrs, obviously a democrat would win. The election is on tuesday and the ground reality seems to suggest something else.
This seat is crucial for President and Democrats as it is the much coveted 60th seat in the senate to get a filabuster-proof majority which democrats have enjoyed so far. It is critical for healthcare reform as well as for immigration reform (if at all it comes).
The gap between both the candidates was narrow with democrat leading but today, for the first time, polls indicate that Brown has taken lead over Coakley. People in this blue state seem to increasingly support Brown, mainly frustrated because of healthcare policies. Mass residents already have a healthcare related tax to help run state's universal health care. On top of that, federal health overall would be adding more taxes on people and people fear that they will end paying both. Already, mass is a very high tax state. So, there is an increasing popularity to tax-related fiscal conservative campaign run by Brown.
This is surely gonna be a nail-biter; so let's wait and watch this one. Election is coming tuesday.

While I laugh at that guy. I would like to remind you that we are living in a republic and not in a democracy.
Any one can be a self hurting fool using his/her "Individual?s God-given, unalienable rights". While in a democracy individuals worry about majority rule and popular thought.
I dont understand why Obama (a former senior lecturer in constitutional law ) refers to this country as democracy.

I'm a July 2007 filer going to file for my EAD for the first time. Since I'm currently on H1B, how should I answer this question
I'm applying for:
a) Permission to accept employment
b) Replacement
c) Renewal of my permission to accept employment
I think I need to go with option "c" since moving from H1B to EAD would qualify for a "c" response
Please advise.....

I used my 485 EAD, which I received when I filed my 485 with my spouse. And now I want my employer to apply H-1B for me. I am wondering if I can apply change of status to H-1B within US or I have to apply H-1B petition, which requires me to get out of US and get the visa at some US consulate or embassy.
I'd really appreciate any info.

My 140 (filed concurrently with 485) was approved on Aug 17th. Ever since 08/17 I have been seeing LUD's on it everyday. In fact there was a LUP on 08/19 Sunday! Any ideas what's happening? I think something is going in CIS.
